Leeds United Interested in FC Utrecht Right Back Sean Klaiber
Full Price for Klaiber
Klaiber’s contract with Utrecht expires in 2022 and he is currently valued at just over €2 million currently.
The club will apparently only accept the full asking price for the 25-year-old.
Utrecht’s hierarchy will want to re-invest the money received for any potential transfers into replacements for the first-team.
Leeds Need a Right-Back
Although 28-year-old Luke Ayling featured as Leeds’ main right-back last season, Marcelo Bielsa will certainly want to add further competition in this area.
Ayling made 25 appearances at right-back for Leeds last season, but the versatile defender was also required to fill in for centre-back Liam Cooper on occasion throughout their promotion campaign.
Stuart Dallas also filled in the right-back position for Leeds last season, but Bielsa will be eager to find a permanent solution in this area in preparation for Leeds’ Premier League campaign next season.
Klaiber made 31 appearances in all competitions for FC Utrecht last season. He scored four goals and made four assists in his 24 Eredivisie appearances for the club.
The Dutch defender rose through the youth ranks at Utrecht and made over 150 appearances for the Eredivise side. In this time, Klaiber made 21 assists for the club, which would catch the attention of Bielsa, who likes his full-backs to attack.
Despite predominantly featuring as a right-back, the 25-year-old defender played at right midfield and as a defensive midfielder on occasion last season. Bielsa favours such versatility so it’s no surprise the Argentinian manager shows interest in the Dutch full-back to bolster his defensive options.
