The Future is Bright for Dani Olmo

Dani Olmo

RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Dani Olmo had a successful start to his time with the club. After making the move to the Bundesliga in January, Olmo was an instant addition to the Leipzig’s squad and made 13 appearances across all competitions.

As a highly regarded talent for the future of the club, Olmo’s season performance for Leipzig proved he belonged to play in a top European league. He has what it takes to be the next big player to develop at Leipzig.

A Bright Future for Dani Olmo

From Zagreb to Leipzig

Olmo took a very different path than most players who have been members of Barcelona’s youth academy. At just 16, he made the move to Dinamo Zagreb to play in Croatia’s first division. This was a surprising move as he had a chance to rise up the ranks at Barcelona and make his way into the first team one day.

His time at Zagreb proved to be a very good decision for his future. Olmo was twice named the Croatian Player of the Year and won four titles with the club. This set up his opportunity to feature for Leipzig who have shown they are capable of getting players to bigger clubs while also maintaining a high level of success themselves.

While Zagreb may not play in the most competitive league in Europe, Olmo’s impressive record of 34 goals and 28 assists in 134 appearances for the club spoke volumes of what he was capable of, especially when he accomplished this at a very young age.

The Future Looks Good

Despite leaving Barcelona’s youth academy, the Spanish club were reported by Squawka to have an interest in bringing him back to the club in the winter transfer window. This never came to be, but it shows what a huge signing this was for Leipzig when top clubs were showing interest.

Olmo did not disappoint for Leipzig upon his arrival. He recorded four goals and one assist across 13 matches in all competitions. With Leipzig still alive in the UEFA Champions League, he is certainly going to see playing time when they face Atletico Madrid.

The upcoming Bundesliga season will be another opportunity for him to show his quality. It will be his first full season in the German top flight and a chance for him to become one of the best players in the league.

There’s a strong possibility he could be selected for Spain’s Euro 2021 team if he can take the Bundesliga by storm next season. This would be his first major competition for Spain’s senior team and he will have the opportunity to win his first major international title at the senior level.

The Next Big Player to Exit Leipzig?

He’s still early in his time with Leipzig but Olmo has the potential to follow in the footsteps of recent Chelsea signing Timo Werner. The German striker decided to exit Leipzig for a chance at Premier League glory. With Olmo being a highly sought after player, there’s a chance he could be sought after too.
