Burnley Extend Ben Mee Stay By One Year

Burnley captain Ben Mee has had his contract extended by 12 months at Turf Moor. His current deal was due to expire in June 2021, however, the Clarets have taken up their option to add 12 months to his stay.

Mee joined the club on loan from Manchester City in 2011 and never left, signing permanently in January 2012.

At the age of 30-years-old, he is a mainstay in the current side and is trusted with the captain’s armband.

Happy to Stay at Turf Moor

“It feels good to extend my stay here and hopefully we can keep progressing how we have done. I’m excited for what we can do and what we can achieve,” Mee told the club website.

Mee became the 21st player in Burnley’s history to make 300 league appearances when scoring in a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in June.

He will have the opportunity to build on those appearances over the next two years.

“I feel at a really good place in my career. It’s nice to have that backing and as a player, it’s always positive to have that support. I’m feeling good and I’m looking to play for a lot longer. There’s plenty more in me.

“I want to play more and improve and keep progressing as a player and as a captain as well now.

“That’s a big ambition of mine, to play as many games as I can and keep learning along the way and I’m looking forward to many more appearances.”

Solid Form in Good Season

Mee helped Burnley keep 13 clean sheets in the Premier League this season, helping goalkeeper Nick Pope push Manchester City’s Ederson all the way for the Golden Glove. The England international fell one short in the end, but it was a gallant effort.

Burnley have done well for themselves to finish 10th in the league, just two points adrift of the likes of Arsenal. They’ll hope to push on and snatch a European place in the next few seasons.

“I think I’ve been playing well and the lads look fit and in good form and ready to go, which we will be for next season after what’s going to be a quick turn-around.”
