League One Experience

Ehmer, 28, spent five permanent years at Gillingham following his move from Queens Park Rangers, having been on loan there in 2014/15. He led the club as captain in the latter years of his spell, helping to solidify Gillingham’s place in mid-table for numerous seasons.

He needs no introduction to life in League One having played 250 times for Gillingham in all competitions. Ehmer also chipped in with 15 goals across his five years, including a total of seven in the 2016/17 season.

Prior to his move to the Gills, Ehmer had two loans at Yeovil Town, a spell at Preston North End and seasons with both Stevenage and Carlisle United.

What Was Said?

Speaking to the club website about his move, Ehmer said: “I’m ecstatic to be joining Bristol Rovers, speaking to the gaffer I got a sense of the direction of the club. He’s a young coach who’s looking to play the right way and that really excites me!”

“I’ve played here four or five times in the past and every time it felt like a sell-out, the fans are so loud. It makes me excited and I can’t wait to get started.”

Manager Ben Garner added: “Max is a very good defender who is proven at this level. He is strong & robust being virtually ever-present for Gillingham over the past few seasons. Max is also a good passer of the ball & effective from set-pieces at both ends of the pitch.”
