Mansfield Town have confirmed the signing of defender Farrend Rawson on a two-year deal.

Mansfield Town Sign Farrend Rawson

Fifth Signing of the Summer

Rawson, who joins from fellow League Two club Forest Green Rovers, is the Stags’ fifth signing of the summer.

Having spent the past three season with Forest Green, he makes the move closer to home, having began his career with Derby County.

The 24-year-old has been pivotal in Mark Cooper’s side across the last two seasons. He made 38 appearances in the 2018/19 season, as Forest Green reached the League Two play-off semi-finals. Rawson also made 30 appearances before the curtailment of the 2019/20 season.

The former Derby County defender arrives at Field Mill alongside former Luton Town goalkeeper Marek Stech, who has not featured for the Hatters since the 2018/19 season.

Also joining him are Ollie Clarke, who signed from Bristol Rovers, and strikers Jordan Bowery and Jamie Reid.

What Was Said

Speaking to the official Mansfield Town website, manager Graham Coughlan said: “This is another terrific addition to our squad.

“For someone so young, Faz has amassed a lot of experience and game time and with the right coaching he can definitely push himself to the next level.

“He is honest, hard-working and a real commanding figure in both boxes.

“Faz and his wife have shown real commitment to this move, given they have recently had a new born baby.

“We are delighted to have him on board and can’t wait to get started.”

Promotion the Aim?

Promotion is likely to be the aim for the Stags in the forthcoming season, after a disappointing 2019/20 campaign.

Mansfield finished in 21st place, winning just nine of their 36 games before the seasons curtailment. It was a disappointing campaign, following their play-off finish the season before.

As a result, they will be hoping to be at the right end of the table at the end of the 2020/21 season.
