Shayden Morris Has Already Debuted

Although he was still classed a youth team player, the 18-year-old Morris has already made his first-team debut for Fleetwood. This was in September 2019, when he was a substitute during one of Town’s Checkatrade Trophy group matches.

All players remember their debuts, especially if you are playing against Liverpool. This is exactly what happened to Morris, albeit against Liverpool’s Under 21 side. He came on as a 67th-minute substitute for the more experienced Ashley Hunter. The match ended as 1-1 draw, with Fleetwood winning 4-3 on penalties.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the 2019/20 season was cut short. This situation also applied to the Youth Alliance League, which is the division that Fleetwood Town’s Under 18s compete in.

The last match that Town’s Under 18s side played during 2020, was on March 11th. This saw them host their counterparts from Carlisle United. This was also a match for Morris to remember, as he scored two goals to help his Fleetwood side win 3-0.

Work Ahead

Fleetwood Town’s Academy manager Ciaran Donnelly has this morning been speaking to the Official Fleetwood Town website. He was full of praise for Morris.

Shayden knows he has a lot a work ahead of him but now has a fantastic opportunity to step-up and join the club’s professional ranks.” said Donnelly.

“We all look forward to watching him grow and continue to improve around the club’s professionals and hopefully will see him make the progression through to the first team in the future.”

Two years ago, Morris joined Fleetwood from Southend United. He plays as a winger.

Madden Banned

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that Fleetwood striker Paddy Madden will serve a 2-match ban for his recent sending-off. Earlier this month, he was dismissed during the first leg of Town’s play-off tie against Wycombe Wanderers. Wycombe won the game 4-1 and would subsequently seal promotion to the Championship, via a Play-off Final win over Oxford United.
