Pivotal Final Three

Following their defeat to Sheffield United, it is a pivotal final three fixtures for the Blues.

Lampard spoke about how he ‘learnt a lot’ about his players following the defeat at Bramall Lane, throwing doubt over several players futures.

However, the Chelsea boss does not believe that his team have a lot to worry about, and should only be focusing on their run-in.

“In terms of fighting for their careers, no, I want the players just to fight to be a Chelsea player and win the game that’s in hand,” said the Blues boss.

“Tomorrow that’s Norwich, and it will be Manchester United at the weekend.

“So we don’t jump ahead, and nobody should. The next game ahead is the only one that matters at the minute.

“We’re at a critical stage of the season; Norwich tomorrow then in terms of the league Liverpool and Wolves.

“We know what’s in front of us, we know we have the capabilities in the squad and the team because we’ve shown this season at lots of different points, that’s what’s got us into third position and now we need to finish the job.”

The focus for Lampard remains on qualifying for the 2020/21 Champions League. The Blues host relegated Norwich City at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening, before facing Manchester United and Liverpool away from home. They then host Wolverhampton Wanderers on the final day of the season.

Champions League qualification in his first season at Stamford Bridge would be a magnificent achievement for Lampard, and be a sign of things to come.
