Stankovic Will Join Austrian Side SK Strum Graz

Huddersfield announced via its website Stankovic will exit the club once the season reaches its conclusion. The defender has signed for Austrian Bundesliga side SK Strum Graz.

Stankovic has spent the past four years at the club, having arrived from Borussia Dortmund II in 2016. He played a role in Huddersfield’s promotion campaign under David Wagner and helped them stay in the Premier League for two seasons.

Injuries have limited his appearances for Huddersfield but he will fondly remember his first goal for the club. His only goal came in a Premier League game with Manchester City.

The defender has been called up on several occasions by Danny Cowley with injuries ripping through his team. The Slovenian international has made 18 appearances this season and is available for Huddersfield’s last seven matches.

He will hope to help the Terriers avoid consecutive relegations. Stankovic will leave once the season is over and link up with his new team.

Danny Cowley Disappointed to See Stankovic Leave

Speaking about Stankovic’s exit, manager Danny Cowley said: “We think a lot of Jon and see a lot of potential.”

“He’s a diligent professional and we were keen to keep him, but it wasn’t possible and that’s no fault of anybody’s.”

“It’s disappointing for me and everyone at the Club, but that’s the reality of the situation.”

“I’m not surprised he’s found a new club so quickly. In other circumstances he could have played more.”

“Credit to him because he could walk away now and prepare for their season, but he wants to see this through.”

“The Club means a lot to him, he’s a really good human being and wants to see this to fruition.”
