Arsenal Midfielder Dani Ceballos Fails to Rule Out Return to Real Betis

Dani Ceballos

Arsenal loanee Dani Ceballos has remained coy about his future, saying that a move back to Real Betis is an option.

The Spanish international started his career at Betis in 2014 and helped them in getting promoted from the Spanish second tier, before moving to Real Madrid in 2017.

He has spent this season on loan at Arsenal, and has been a crucial player as of late. He also said that a continued stay in the Premier League might be possible.

What Did He Say?

After Arsenal’s 2-0 win against Southampton, Ceballos spoke to Spanish outlet Cadena SER about his future.

He said: “The owner of my future next year is me. Next year I want to play and I will hardly be able to do that at Real Madrid.

“Betis? It is an option. I do not close the door to play in any club. I do not rule out continuing in the Premier League.”

Ceballos also said that he’s kept an eye on Betis since leaving and he is a fan of the club.

“It is the team that gave me the opportunity to be a footballer. I am a Betic and whenever I do not have a match at the same time I see it”

Form This Season

When Unai Emery was in charge at Arsenal, Ceballos saw a lot of game time, playing regularly in Arsenal’s first 11 games of the Premier League season. However, things soon took a turn for the worse in November when he picked up a muscle injury. He would not play again till the end of January after falling out of favour with new manager Mikel Arteta.

In January, there were reports that the Spaniard wanted to end his loan deal early due to the amount of playing time he was getting. However, he stayed at the club and started playing more regularly as the season headed towards the enforced pause. He has also played prominent roles in the three games since the season restarted, and looks to be one of the first names on the Arsenal team sheet at the moment.

Options for Next Season

On August 31st, Ceballos’ loan is up and he will be back at Real Madrid. He has already said he will hardly play for them, so it looks like he will be moving again. So what are his options?

One option could be a permanent move to Arsenal. However, The Athletic understands that when the clubs enquired about a permanent deal last summer, Arsenal were quoted around €40 million. If this is still the case now, then it will eat up a large amount of Arsenal’s transfer budget. However, this doesn’t stop them from trying to loan him back in for a second season, which seems the most likely out of the two options.

As already discussed, Real Betis is another option which that be seriously considered by Ceballos. The player loves the club and has history with them, so it seems like it is a possibility.

Maybe another Premier League club might come in for him. He has refused to rule out leaving the Premier League, which might give some clubs hope in signing him for the season, if not permanently.
