The pair have been key squad players for Kenny Jackett since their arrivals from Rangers and Barnsley respectively.

Scotland under-21 international McCrorie joined the south coast club last summer and has made 22 appearances this season. The 22-year-old, who has covered as a full back and in the middle of the park, has also provided five assists in all competitions.

As for McGheehan, he has experience in gaining promotion from League One. The Barnsley man was part of the side that secured promotion last season. The 25-year-old has also scored twice and provided one assist from 15 appearances, having only arrived in January.

The pair follow left-back Steve Seddon, who has also seen his loan deal from Birmingham City extended.

Squad Boost and Form

Ensuring these three players’ contract extensions will be a major boost for Pompey. Not only does it add extra depth to their squad, but all three players have played pivotal roles this season.

However, Jackett’s side headed into the break with two wins and two defeats from their last five games, while their play-off opponents Oxford won all five before the halt in play.

League One Play-offs

Pompey face Oxford United in the League One play-off semi-finals, with their first match at Fratton Park on July 3.

Like Portsmouth, the U’s have also seen a number of key loanees extend their stays with the side. Top scorer Matty Taylor, who will leave Bristol City in the summer, is one of them. He is joined by Ben Woodburn and Marcus Browne, while Liam Kelly has also seen his deal extended from Feyenoord.
