REPORT: Leroy Sane Will Leave Manchester City and Join Bayern Munich

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that winger Leroy Sane will leave the club. The German has rejected a contract extension that would keep him at the Etihad. He has already agreed personal terms with Bayern Munich, and the two clubs are negotiating a fee, according to Fabrizio Romano.

“Leroy has rejected to extend his contract. Everyone knows. If at the end of the season two clubs agree he can leave, if not he will leave at the end of his contract.

The club offered two or three times, and he rejected it,” said Pep Guardiola.

An Expected Move From Leroy Sane

It’s not surprising to most casual observers that Leroy Sane has rejected a contract extension. The German was heavily linked to Bayern Munich last summer before a terrible knee injury derailed his plans.

And it seems like that transfer will finally happen now.

The winger will be hoping to get more meaningful game time in Bavaria. At City, he was often reduced to the role of impact substitution, which was not befitting of a man with his talent.

Despite these restrictions, he made 31 appearances in 2018/19 and scored ten goals while making 11 assists. However, he only played a full 90-minute match on 20 occasions.

Also, more game time may improve his standing in the German international team. Manager Joachim Low dropped Sane from the 2018 World Cup squad.

Playing in Germany for Bayern may give Low more opportunity to watch Sane. The winger is definitely hoping that this will lead to more chances at the international level. Since 2015, Sane has made 21 appearances for his country and scored five goals.

A Good Move for Bayern and City

This transfer is a good move for both Bayern Munich and Manchester City. The English club has plenty of creative talents such as Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez. There is simply no room for Sane to get the appearances and minutes that he needs to develop.

On the other hand, Bayern Munich love their speedy wingers. They currently favour a 4-3-3 formation with Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman on either side of striker Robert Lewandowski.

While Gnabry and Sane have similar stats, the Manchester City man had more goals and assists than Coman in 2018/2019.

Bayern Munich was known for their deadly wingers Arjen Robben and Frank Ribery for many years. Leroy Sane may be the continuation of that tradition.
