David Silva to Stay at Manchester City for Remaining Fixtures

David Silva

Manchester City have confirmed that out-of-contract midfielder David Silva will finish the season with the club. Silva has been linked with various free transfers after he confirmed this would be his last season in Manchester. However, the news that he will be staying to see out the extended 2019/20 season is most welcome for City.

David Silva to Finish Season With Manchester City

Final Season

Manchester City fans have known for some time that this will be Silva’s last season with the club. He has spent ten years in the blue half of Manchester since joining from Valencia. In that time, he has made over 300 appearances, scored over 50 goals and won 15 trophies.

The Spain international’s contract was due to expire in June but the Premier League granted special dispensation for players whose contracts were running out this month to be granted short-term extensions.

At his press conference ahead of City’s first game back against Arsenal tonight, Pep Guardiola revealed the news about Silva and said that as there would be no fans in the ground to give Silva a deserved goodbye, he hopes the club can organise a proper farewell in the future.

He said: “He will finish the last games without people. But hopefully he and the club can organise a proper farewell in front of people.

“Big clubs become incredible clubs when they make gestures to incredible players who have been here more than a decade. Like Vincent Kompany, Joe Hart, Yaya Toure…all these players. Pablo Zabaleta. Sorry for the names I forget, but they know who they are!

“The situation is what it is, no-one wants it. David especially. The club will make an agreement with David and do what they have to do.”

Sane and Laporte in Contention

The three-month break in action has given injured players a chance of appearing in the final parts of this season.

Defender Aymeric Laporte and winger Leroy Sane are both in contention to feature against the Gunners in the second of two games this evening.

New assistant manager Juanma Lillo will also be getting his first taste of Premier League action.
