REPORT: David Silva Could Head to Qatar After Manchester City Exit

David Silva

David Silva is in high demand as clubs await his Manchester City exit. Now, he has been linked to a surprise move to a club in Qatar.

After ten seasons of showcasing his skills for Manchester City, the Spaniard has decided to leave the club on a free transfer. Although aged 34, he remains in high demand. When you are as talented as Silva, age is less of a factor. Therefore, it is of little surprise, that a number of leading clubs around the world are being linked to the midfielder.

For months, he has been heavily tipped to join Inter Miami in the USA. Inter Miami are the Major League Soccer (MLS) club owned by David Beckham. Alternatively, it has been suggested that Silva could opt for an emotional return to his former club Valencia of La Liga. A move to Italy is another option, with AC Milan leading the Serie A chase.

However, according to a report in Spain by Pablo Planas of Mundo Deportivo, backed up by Daniel Murphy of the Manchester Evening News, a new destination is now more probable for Silva. This is Al-Duhail of Qatar, whose squad includes former Juventus duo Medhi Benatia and Mario Mandzukic.

It will be quite a transfer coup if this happens, as he is also linked with rival Qatari side Al Sadd. This speculation arose as Al Sadd are managed by Silva’s former Spanish international teammate Xavi.

Out of Contract

Meanwhile, Silva has extended his contract with Manchester City until the end of their 2019/20 season. Originally, it was due to expire at the end of June, but the suspension of football complicated matters. Like many other out-of-contract players, he has agreed an extension to cover the remaining fixtures.
