REPORT: Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira Wants Italian Reunion

In a turn of events in the red half of London, the agent of Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira has revealed that the player wants to return to Serie A. Torreira had joined Arsenal from Italian club Sampdoria in July 2018.

In an interview with Italian sports outlet Tuttomercato, Torreira’s agent Pablo Bentancur revealed that the midfielder ‘would love to return to Italy’ after two years in London.

Torreira had also interestingly gone on record at the beginning of the season to reveal that he played much better football in Italy. This had upset a lot of Arsenal fans as the player was just becoming an influential part of the Unai Emery side.

Pablo Bentancur’s Comments

Bentancur told Tuttomercato: “I still have to talk to Arsenal. The player would love to return to Italy, although it must be acknowledged that Arsenal have treated him very well.”

He also went on to add that Torreira had faced a subdued form due to tactical differences with Unai Emery. But he bounced back after the player-coach duo put their differences behind for collective glory.

Injury struck the 24-year-old after the dark episode with Unai Emery. Fortunately, it was not a serious one. The Arsenal medical staff treated him well to get him back in form.

Torreira Missing Italian Football

The Uruguayan highlighted language barriers as one of his biggest problems in England. He has been apparently unhappy with the fact that he cannot converse with his team-mates at important occasions.

“I don’t think there are many things I enjoy here in England. I think it was better in Italy. England is a totally different world, it’s a very large country.”

He is often spotted watching Italian football when he has a day off at Arsenal. This highlights his fondness towards Serie A. This season he was spotted watching his previous club Sampdoria in action against Genoa from the stands.

It will be a huge blow to Mikel Arteta’s squad if the player decides to quit the club. Torreira is an important part of the team alongside Granit Xhaka and Matteo Guendouzi in the midfield.
