Lewandowski has urged Haaland to avoid a move to Manchester United or Real Madrid despite both being strongly interested, but instead to continue his development at Borussia Dortmund.

“He has huge potential, but still has time. I don’t want to put any pressure on him with my statements,” he told reporters.

“If he works hard, he can become a better player and eventually reach the top level.

“Therefore, it might be good for him if he would stay in the Bundesliga longer before taking the next step.”

Staying at Dortmund might be the best career choice for Haaland, with the German outfit having turned out many talented youngsters including, most recently, Jadon Sancho.

Many Clubs Interested in Haaland

Elite interest in Haaland started at the beginning of this season, as he lit up both the Austrian Bundesliga and the Champions League. He scored 16 goals in 14 games in the former, while the latter saw him net eight times in just six appearances, only four of which were starts.

With that, there was a scrap for his signature in the run-up to the January transfer window. While United seemed to be in pole position for much of the race, the personal connection of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to his Norwegian target just one of the many factors which got them there, Borussia Dortmund were able to beat them out to sign the wonderkid.

Since the move to Germany’s first division, Haaland has not disappointed. Despite the increased quality of the league and high expectations of the fans, the 19-year-old dazzled everyone on his debut, coming off the bench to score a hat-trick in a 5-3 thriller of a win over FC Augsburg. He has continued to score, too, with nine goals from eight Bundesliga matches.
