New Deal for Thiago

Thiago’s current deal was set to expire next summer in June 2021. However, the length of the Spanish midfielder’s new contract is yet to be disclosed.

Negotiations between Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic and board member Oliver Kahn took place with Thiago recently. Ongoing discussions also went ahead between Thiago and manager Hans-Dieter Flick recently. All parties involved reportedly reached a positive agreement on Thiago’s new contract.

End of Contract Speculation

Speaking to Catalan news outlet La Vanguardia earlier this week, Thiago expressed his desire to see out his career at Die Bayern.

He said: “I’ve been in Munich for almost eight years and never even thought that I would play in German football.

“There have to be many things. That you are at your level. Maybe the club is suddenly looking for a guy on your ninety-meter site. But it would be a wonderful club to finish a career.”

Munich Stalwart

Thiago played 32 games for Munich before the Bundesliga was suspended in March as a result of the coronavirus. He scored three goals and made two assists in all competitions.

The Spanish midfielder became a regular with Die Bayern after joining from Barcelona in 2013. He has won Bundesliga titles on six occasions and lifted the DFK Pokal and German Super Cup three times with Munich.

The 29-year-old’s extension is the latest of a number of negotiations at the club. Thomas Muller signed a new contract with the club until 2023. However, negotiations continue with Manuel Neuer and David Alaba.
