REPORT: Inter Milan to Enter Race for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Italian giants Inter Milan are set to battle it out for the highly sought after signature of Arsenal star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to the Daily Mail.

Their pursuit has come amidst talk of Aubameyang’s uncertain future at the Emirates, with Spanish world-beaters Barcelona and Real Madrid, along with England’s Manchester United and Chelsea in hot pursuit of the Gabonese forward.

Stiff Competition

With just 15 months left on his Arsenal contract, 30-year-old Aubameyang has persistently been the talk of this summer’s transfer window, with a move away from the Emirates looking more and more evident each day.

The Gabon striker, who is not getting any younger, has expressed his desire to play Champions League football once again, something he has not done since leaving Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

Many of Europe’s top clubs have been linked to the Arsenal captain, however, rumoured wage demands of over £200,000, and a price tag of £56 million may deter negotiations from taking place.

Inter to Step Up Their Pursuit of Aubameyang

Aubameyang, a former youth team player of Internazionale’s city rivals AC Milan, has much experience in this historic city, and a move back here would be of his best interests according to French source Le10Sport.

Reports suggest that Inter boss Antonio Conte has always been a fan of the Gabon international which dates back to his days as Chelsea manager, where Aubameyang terrorized the Blues defence. In fact, Conte’s side only beat the Gunners once in eight outings.

Interestingly, Conte has already brought numerous Premier League players to Inter, including Alexis Sanchez, Ashley Young, Romelu Lukaku and Christian Eriksen, who have all made Milan their home since Conte’s appointment in May 2019.

A Perfect Signing for Inter?

With Lautaro Martinez looking increasingly likely to exit the Inter set-up this summer and join Barcelona, Inter must now consider possible replacements for their Argentinean talisman, and what better person to fill this role than Aubameyang himself.

20 goals in all competitions this season and second in the Premier League Golden Boot Race prior to the postponement of world football, Aubameyang has consistently performed year in and year out and has developed a reputation as one of football’s most feared goalscorers.

The £56 million price tag given to Aubameyang is completely justified as he proved his goalscoring abilities in France, Germany and England alike.

However, whether his incredibly high wage demands will be matched, remains to be answered, but nonetheless, his transfer saga will make for excellent viewing this summer.
