Manchester City could lose Sergio Aguero to former club Independiente according to Simon Mullock from The Mirror. The Argentine club are stepping up their efforts to bring their former player back.

REPORT: Independiente Stepping Up Sergio Aguero Efforts

Independiente’s Interest in Sergio Aguero

The Argentine club want to convince Aguero to return to Avellaneda and stepped up their efforts to sign the 31-year-old.

Aguero has just one year left on his current contract with City. Therefore, the 31-year-old may be tempted by a return to South America.

But, it is highly unlikely that City would allow their talisman to leave without receiving a large transfer fee.

Aguero began his career at Independiente. He scored 23 goals in 53 appearances for the club before transferring to Atletico Madrid in 2006.

Lucas Pusineri‘s Charm Offensive

Current El Rojo manager Lucas Pusineri spoke about the prospect of Aguero returning to Independiente recently.

Speaking to radio station Super Miter Deportivo, Pusineri said: “Hopefully it will be my turn to be the coach of Kun Aguero.

“I was a teammate of his and I hope that in the future I will get to be his coach.

“Hopefully in my stay at Independiente, I can come to [reunite with] Sergio. We are keeping him the number 10.

“The steps are being taken and hopefully he can return with good effect and give joy to the fans of the reds.”

Pusineri played with Aguero at Independiente between 2003 and 2006. It is clear that the former midfielder clearly hopes to use his relationship with the 31-yar-old to lure him to Independiente.

End of an Era for City?

If Aguero leaves City, it would signify the end to the most successful era in the club’s history.

Since joining City in 2011, Aguero scored 254 goals for the club and helped them to win four Premier League titles, five League Cups and one FA Cup.

In addition to Aguero, another long-term servant David Silva also looks likely to leave the Etihad this summer.

With both iconic players departing, it appears as though City will be hoping to begin a new era of success with a changing squad.
