REPORT: Arsenal and Manchester United Want Corentin Tolisso

Corentin Tolisso

Arsenal and Manchester United have joined the race to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Corentin Tolisso, according to Gareth Bicknell from the Daily Mirror.

The 25-year-old has been out-of-favour at the Allianz Arena this season, which raised interest from Arsenal and United.

Out-of-Favour

French midfielder Tolisso struggled at Bayern over the past year as recurring injuries provided him little opportunity to impress.

Manager Hans-Dieter Flick took charge of Bayern in November 2019 and started Tolisso just seven times this season.

Flick prefers Joshua Kimmich, Thiago and Philippe Coutinho ahead of Tolisso in midfield which provided the Frenchman with few first-team chances.

Tolisso made 68 appearances for Die Bayern since his £37 million transfer from Lyon in 2017.

But, the 2018 World Cup winner is now supposedly keen on a transfer from Bayern and wants a new challenge elsewhere.

Competition Across Europe

Tolisso’s quality will attract plenty of interest amongst the top European clubs. In addition to Arsenal and United, Italian giants Napoli and Juventus appear interested in Tolisso while Atletico Madrid seem eager to sign the Frenchman.

There will be plenty of options for Tolisso and he could be available for just £23 million this summer.

Arsenal or United?

Mikel Arteta wants to improve a number of positions at Arsenal during the summer transfer window.

Tolisso would add plenty of creativity in midfield and he would be a suitable replacement for on-loan midfielder Dani Ceballos. The Spanish midfielder returns to parent club Real Madrid at the end of the season.

However, the North London club are ninth in the Premier League. Therefore, Champions League football looks unlikely for the Gunners which could be a big deal-breaker for Tolisso.

Ole Gunnar Solskjær reportedly wants to replace Paul Pogba in central midfield and Tolisso seems a suitable replacement.

The prospect of linking Tolisso up with Bruno Fernandes may be a more exciting proposition for the 25-year-old.
