REPORT: Leicester City Track Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne

Leicester City are keeping an eye on wing-back Timothy Castagne as a contingency plan in case they lose Ricardo Pereira, according to Belgian outlet Sport/Foot.

The Foxes have no intention of letting Pereira go as he’s had an outstanding season. Despite that, they have to prepare for the worst-case scenario in case other clubs try and lure him away when the transfer window re-opens.

Timothy Castagne Linked With Leicester City

A Key Part of Atalanta’s Success

24-year-old Castagne has made 14 appearances this season for Atalanta, who are enjoying an incredible campaign. La Dea are sitting fourth in Serie A and had reached the quarter-final of the Champions League before UEFA suspended their European competitions. That was courtesy of a stunning 8-4 aggregate win over Valencia.

They’ve earned admirers all over Europe with their sensational attacking performances, and they’re the third top scorers in the continent with 70 goals this season.

However, the wing-backs play a huge part in this. Predominantly, manager Gian Piero Gasparini uses a 3-4-1-2 system. Castagne is naturally right-sided but is also able to play on the left-hand side, and he spends a lot of his time motoring forward. Due to his energy and crossing ability, he’s a key attacking outlet for the Italian side.

If Castagne was to join Leicester, he’d join fellow Belgian internationals Youri Tielemans and Dennis Praet.

Timothy Castagne Would Have Huge Shoes to Fill

Pereira is a hugely important player for City. Despite the fact he’s a right-back, the Portuguese has arguably been their most creative players since the start of the calendar year.

He’s chipped in with four assists so far this term, and he offers tremendous pace, width and energy to Brendan Rodgers’ attack. Since swapping Porto for Leicester, the 26-year-old has notably improved the defensive side of his game as well.

Although Castagne would be a good potential replacement, Leicester will be very keen to keep hold of Pereira.
