REPORT: Manchester United Looking for Permanent Buyers for Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez joined Manchester United in January of 2018 from Arsenal in a swap deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan go the opposite direction. At the time this deal seemed a bargain for United. They signed a player whose market value was at an estimated at roughly £77 million, in exchange for someone struggling in Manchester. While it may have seemed the deal of the century, there was more to come. Sanchez came so cheaply as he only had six months left on his contract, but it seems he may still have cost United too much Due to this, Manchester United are said to be looking for permanent buyers for the Chilean winger.

Poor for United after Arsenal Success

Sanchez has been poor for United. He signed for the Red Devils with 45 direct goal involvements the past season and a half with Arsenal. However, since then, things have looked down. While with Arsenal, Sanchez’ goal involvements to games ratio was roughly 0.75 per match. Since joining Manchester United, this figure has fallen to just over 0.3. The Chilean, who had once been a star player at Arsenal, was now struggling to get game time with a struggling United. The winger did not live up to the expectations which surrounded him. This has even led to him leaving the club on loan at Inter Milan.

Recent Loan

Alexis Sanchez recently moved away from Manchester on a temporary deal. The former Arsenal player is currently playing for Inter Milan, but even there he has failed to impress. Although his season has been struck by injury, Sanchez has made just 11 appearances for the Italian giants, with most of these being very brief. He has just four direct goal involvements in his time there, so it is safe to say that Alexis Sanchez’s career has not experienced a renaissance while away from United.

Manager’s Comments on Alexis Sanchez

Contradictory to more recent reports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said in January that Alexis Sanchez would get another chance at United. In this time, there has clearly been a change of heart. Sources now suggest that Solskjaer’s apparently positive opinion of Sanchez in interviews was simply to keep up his market value. His recent performances do not make him particularly desirable, but the 31-year-old still has quality, and may yet re-find his pre-United form.

Sanchez joined Manchester United in 2018 but has failed to impress since then. He is not a favourite of United’s management, and with a planned rebuild, both his age and recent form back that up. While Sanchez still possesses much quality, it is questionable as to whether he can still do it at the top. Either way, Alexis Sanchez may leave Manchester United in the upcoming summer transfer window.
