The Deal

Salford announced via their website they had signed the defender. Eastham arrives from Fleetwood for an undisclosed fee signing a two-and-a-half-year contract at The Peninsula Stadium.

The experienced defender has been at Fleetwood since 2016 and helped them qualify for the League One play-offs in his first season. He is vastly experienced, playing for the likes of Rochdale, Blackpool, Bury and Cheltenham Town.

His arrival continues Salford’s huge transition of players in this window. The Ammies are building a team with experienced heads mixed with talented youngsters. They are too far away from the promotion picture. However, a top-half finish is in their grasp and that would be a tremendous first season in the EFL.

Eastham will be Salford’s seventh new signing this window and continues their theme of signing experienced players. Eastham follows the likes of Michael O’Connor and Bruno Andrade in joining Salford, who have plenty of experience in all forms of the English game.

Graham Alexander is certainly building a squad to finish the season strongly and go for promotion next season. The owners are heavily backing the manager as Salford continue to adjust to league football and they have shown plenty of positives. However, their league form is extremely inconsistent which is why they are a long way from where they want to be.

It would take a stunning run of results for Salford to claw themselves into the promotion race but Salford know how to win games. Ashley Eastham knows about expectation and certainly, he will be a good addition to the Salford defence.

Tomorrow’s game against Port Vale comes too soon. His debut is more likely to take place in eight days time.
