The Deal

Northampton announced via their website they had signed the defender. Jones arrives on loan for the remainder of the season and becomes Northampton’s fourth January signing.

Jones arrives after a terrific spell at Luton in which he helped them to Championship promotion. However, he has struggled for game time this season at Kenilworth Road.

Keith Curle will be delighted to have the defender on board as he looks to continue Northampton’s promotion charge. The Cobblers are enjoying a tremendous season and certainly, Jones gives them another option at the back.

Jones began his career at Plymouth Argyle before joining Liverpool but never made the breakthrough at Anfield. He has plied his trade in the Football League, playing for various clubs including Cheltenham Town, Swindon Town, Plymouth Argyle, Blackpool and Accrington Stanley.

Jones could make his debut against Macclesfield Town tomorrow as Northampton look to close the gap on the automatic promotion places.

What Was Said

Speaking to the Northampton website about his new signing, manager Keith Curle said: “Lloyd is a good defender who we think is an excellent fit for us.

“He’s a dominant centre back, he can play anywhere across the back three and he can handle the football too, being able to step out and join in with play.

“He is a player who is a good size, he likes to defend, and he has good technical ability.

“He is dominant in both boxes; he’s a goal threat at attacking set plays and he has a decent amount of experience in both League 1 and League 2 so he can hit the ground running. Just as importantly, we think he will fit in well with the excellent dressing room environment we have at the club.”
