Scunthorpe United have sacked manager Paul Hurst and his assistant Chris Doig. Hurst was only appointed in June but a disappointing season for the Iron has warranted the club to act. Hurst leaves with Scunthorpe sat in 16th in the table.

Scunthorpe Sack Manager Paul Hurst

Scunthorpe announced via their website they had sacked their manager.

Hurst only took over in June following Scunthorpe’s relegation to League Two.

Promotion was demanded but the club have struggled to get anywhere near the promotion race.

Their season started horrendously with Scunthorpe collecting just one point from their first seven games.

Scunthorpe did slowly improve but a recent run of two wins in eleven games has spelt the end of Hurst’s reign.

The fans have become extremely frustrated and unhappy with the performances and results all season.

His final game was a heavy loss to Northampton Town last night.

Hurst leaves along with assistant Chris Doig.

Scunthorpe have been hugely disappointing this campaign despite the turnover of players and new management team.

Hurst leaves Scunthorpe 16th in League Two and closer to the relegation zone than the play-offs.

The Iron are fourteen points behind seventh-place Bradford City which is simply unacceptable for a club expected to be doing better.

Scunthorpe have yet to announce who will take over either permanently or on a temporary basis.

The club have stated they will comment at a later stage.

“Hurst Leaves with Immediate Effect”

In a statement on the Scunthorpe website, the club confirmed: “Scunthorpe United would like to announce that manager Paul Hurst and assistant manager Chris Doig have left their positions at the club with immediate effect.

“We thank them for their efforts during their time at the club and wish them well for the future.”

“The club will make no further comment at this stage.”
