First Signing of the Window

The arrival of the 23-year-old is the first signing of the window for the Potters, and is the first signing of the Michael O’Neill era.

Thompson is a familiar face to the Stoke City manager, having handed the midfielder all of his seven international caps for Northern Ireland.

The midfielder has impressed this season for Blackpool. He started 21 games for Simon Grayson’s side, scoring once from defensive midfield.

Speaking to the Stoke City website about the arrival of Thompson, the Stoke manager said: “Jordan is obviously a player who I know well – a young player with a lot of potential. I believe he has the attributes to add to the team and the ability certainly to play at Championship level and above. It’s good to be able to give him the opportunity.

“He’s a very talented left-footed player. I think in the last 18 months in particular he has added a lot to his game, especially defensively and he has a bit of bite as well.

“What Jordan adds is he is a good passer of the ball, has an eye for goal and decent delivery from set-plays too. He has been very impressive since he has stepped up from Under-21 to senior international level. He’s far from the finished article but equally I think he will be very valuable addition to the squad.”

Youngster Departs Stoke on Loan

While Thompson has arrived at Stoke, there has also been a departure from the bet365 Stadium.

Youngster Danny Jarvis has joined National League side Wrexham on a permanent 18-month deal.

When joining his new club, he said: ““I can’t wait to get playing football and give the fans something to shout about.”

“Pressure is a privilege; I’m really looking forward to the task and I can’t wait to get started.”
