Middlesbrough Sign Goalkeeper Dejan Stojanovic

The Deal

Stojanovic arrives for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £1 million. The goalkeeper arrives as Jonathan Woodgate’s third acquisition in the January window.

The former North Macedonia U21 international has agreed a three-and-half-year deal at the Riverside Stadium and replaces Darren Randolph, who re-joined West Ham United.

The 26-year-old has built up plenty of experience in his career playing for the likes of Bologna and Crotone. He has been a solid performer for St Gallen in the Swiss League.

He excelled during his four years in Switzerland including nine clean sheets in 39 games during the 2018/19 season.

The keeper brings much-needed competition and another option for Jonathan Woodgate. He will compete with Tomas Mejias and Aynsley Pears for the number one spot.

Stojanovic could make his Middlesbrough debut this weekend when they face Fulham at Craven Cottage.

What Was Said

Speaking to the Middlesbrough website about his new signing, Jonathan Woodgate said: “We’re delighted to be able to sign Dejan.

“With Darren joining West Ham it was important that we added competition for the goalkeepers who are here.”

A Big Man Between the Sticks for Middlesbrough

At 6’5″, Stojanovic provides a commanding, big figure in the Middlesbrough goal. He will attempt to establish himself as Jonathan Woodgate’s number one in the coming weeks despite the good performances of Aynsley Pears.

Replacing Darren Randolph will be difficult, but Jonathan Woodgate will be confident he has quality goalkeepers to fill the void.

Middlesbrough’s Season is Slowly Improving

Middlesbrough are enjoying an excellent run in the league with confidence in Jonathan Woodgate increasing. He is slowly getting a tune out of his team after a very slow start.

Woodgate may look to add a few more players in the coming weeks with Boro looking to push up the table. Patrick Roberts has already impressed and provided a much-needed creative spark.

Boro are on the up and certainly, they have done some good business so far in the transfer window.
