Chris Wilder Signs New Deal at Sheffield United

History With the Club

Chris Wilder joined Sheffield United in 2016 making him the tenth longest-serving current manager in English league football. His appointment came with the club in League One. It has taken him just three seasons to get the Blades promoted two times. They are now in the English top flight. Wilder managed to secure automatic promotion for Sheffield United last season, with the Blades finishing in second comfortably ahead of third place Leeds United.

Furthermore, he has made some top signings during his time with the Blades. Upon promotion in the summer of 2019, for example, Wilder made ten signings. These included both promising youth and lots of experience, both low and high profile. Some notable deals included Lys Mousset from Bournemouth, Oliver McBurnie from Swansea City and Phil Jagielka from Everton. All of these players, along with his other signings, have made a great impact on the Sheffield United team.

Fantastic Recent Form

Sheffield United appeared in the Premier League with a bang. While fellow new Premier League arrivals are fighting for their lives near the bottom of the table, the Blades are competing for a place in European football. Wilder’s men are currently eighth in the Premier League table. First choice goalkeeper Dean Henderson has the second-highest amount of clean sheets in the league at seven, and that really show how solid the whole defence has been this season. Henderson, like many other players, is a masterclass from Wilder in terms of transfers. Another new signing performing admirably is Lys Mousset. He is the Blades’ top goalscorer this season, and is good value for that with goals coming against the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United.

Wilder’s successful history with the club and even his recent successes give him no reason to leave Sheffield United. With the club extremely happy with his recent performance, there is seemingly no man better for the job, and they will rejoice as Chris Wilder signs a new Sheffield United deal.
