Re-Joining On Permanent Basis

The 25-year-old is making a permanent move to Prenton Park, after spending last season on loan with Tranmere Rovers.

He made 37 appearances for Rovers in League Two, helping them seal promotion to League One through the play-offs.

However, McCullough’s season was cut short after suffering a knee ligament injury against Carlisle United in March. It was the second of his career.

However, after training with Micky Mellon’s side throughout the majority of his recovery, the Tranmere manager has taken up the option to sign Luke McCullough on a permanent basis.

Speaking to the Tranmere Rovers website about the midfielder’s arrival, Mellon said: “Luke is now at a stage in his recovery where he needs games, he’s worked incredibly hard to get this stage now and this is the next part of his fight back to fitness.”

How Will Luke McCullough Fit In At Tranmere Rovers?

The 25-year-old is like to play a minimal role at first as he continues to recover from injury.

However, he has previous experience at League One level, which could prove pivotal in Tranmere’s bid for survival.

Rovers currently sit in 21st place, three points behind MK Dons, who sit in 20th place and outside of the relegation zone.

However, Micky Mellon’s have just five wins from 23 games in League One, a stat that will certainly have to improve if they wish to survive.

Tranmere also have a difficult run of games coming up. They face relegation-threatened Southend United, before facing promotion contenders Blackpool, Ipswich Town and Sunderland.

As a result, McCullough could play a key part once he regains full fitness, as Micky Mellon looks to reinforce in central midfield.
