Injuries to Two Key Players

Both Tom Heaton and Wesley Moraes have been key players for Aston Villa this season.

Heaton has been pivotal in the Villa goal, making vital saves in key moments for Dean Smith’s side. He ranks seventh in the most saves in the Premier League this season, with 68 from 20 games.

As a result of his injury, it means that Villa are now just down to one fit senior goalkeeper in Orjan Nyland. Second-choice Jed Steer has already missed part of the season and, according to Sky Sports, is set to remain sidelined.

Meanwhile, despite playing less of a key role, Wesley will also be a big miss for Aston Villa. He has six goals from 22 games so far this season and has been slowly adapting to life in the Premier League.

Replacements in the January Transfer Market

As a result of the pair’s injuries, Dean Smith may look to add to his squad in the January transfer window.

Villa have already made contact over a deal for Michy Batshuayi, according to Sky Sports. The Belgian international has featured sporadically so far this season for Chelsea, making the majority of his appearances from the bench.

Dean Smith may also want to add a goalkeeper to his squad as a result of the injury to Tom Heaton injury. Stoke City’s Jack Butland is one goalkeeper that they may be looking at, according to Tom Collomosse of the Daily Mail.

Villa will be hoping that they can secure replacements quickly, with five games in 17 days on the horizon.
