Liverpool Reach Club World Cup Final in Dramatic Fashion

Club World Cup final

Liverpool secured their place in the Club World Cup Final in dramatic style. Roberto Firmino’s stoppage-time winner was enough to see off a tenacious Monterrey team in a 2-1 win for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp will now gear his team up for Saturday’s final against Brazilian side Flamengo.

The Substitutes With a Telling Contribution

Liverpool reached the final courtesy of a stoppage-time winner from Roberto Firmino. The Brazilian rescued the Reds with an excellent side-foot finish after latching onto Trent Alexander-Arnold’s pin-point cross. Klopp’s substitutions paid off as the Reds progress to the final.

The manager did raise a few eyebrows with his team selection. Firmino, Alexander-Arnold and Sadio Mane were all left on the bench. The Reds were also missing Virgil van Dijk who missed the game through illness. Jordan Henderson partnered Joe Gomez in the heart of the defence, while James Milner slotted in at right-back. The English made his 200th appearance for the Reds and certainly, it will be one he will remember.

Liverpool were given a tough afternoon against a well organised, free-flowing Monterrey team. The Mexican club battled throughout the contest and found themselves testing an unsure Liverpool defence. Certainly, the Reds will have to thank Alisson for a string of excellent saves with their defence looking very shaky at times, emphasised by their sloppy defending for the Monterrey equaliser. The day, though, belongs to Jurgen Klopp, whose astute, tactical decisions paid off in the end, while Liverpool are continuing their nice habit of scoring stoppage-time winners.

The Reds Are in the Club World Cup Final

The Reds will face another stern examination on Saturday against Brazilian side Flamengo in the Club World Cup final. Jurgen Klopp will hope to have Virgil van Dijk is fit after an unsure display from the Liverpool defence in his absence. The excitement is building, and Klopp will certainly keep his players focused on a huge game. One win for Liverpool and they will be crowned the champions of club football.
