The draw for the last 16 of the Champions League has taken place and it didn’t disappoint. Defending champions Liverpool will face Atletico Madrid while the pick of the matches sees Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City entertain Real Madrid.

Manchester City Face Real Madrid: Guardiola vs Zidane

An enthralling 2019/20 Champions League is only going to get better following the draw for the knockout out stages of the competition. We saw 308 goals in 96 games and expect more exciting games and action.

The pick of the draw has to be Manchester City playing Real Madrid. Pep Guardiola hasn’t won Europe’s top competition since 2011 during his time with Barcelona. His team will face a tricky test against the record winners, Real Madrid. City will have to be at their best to defeat the Spanish giants with Zidane plotting more success on the European stage.

Defending champions Liverpool also entertain Spanish opposition as Jurgen Klopp’s team will face Atletico Madrid. Europe’s most notorious defence will face Liverpool’s dangerous front three. Diego Simeone’s team will pose a very difficult challenge for the defending champions.

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur face German opposition in Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig. It will be a repeat of the 2012 Champions League final as Frank Lampard’s Chelsea face Bayern. A tough assignment for Chelsea, who face the only club to win all six group games. Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham face RB Leipzig who has made the knockout stages for the first time in their history. Julen Naglesmann’s team are flying high on all fronts so it’s not a foregone conclusion for Spurs.

The Remaining Games

The rest of the matches have also thrown up some tasty games. Thomas Tuchel returns to Borussia Dortmund with his Paris Saint-Germain team. Barcelona face Napoli with Ernesto Valverde aiming to secure Barcelona a first Champions League title since 2015. Juventus face Lyon and Champions League debutants Atalanta will face Valencia.

The Champions League resumes in February with first legs to be played on the 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th. The second legs take place on the 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th of March.
