Tottenham Hotspur Transfer Rumours: Christian Eriksen, Nemanja Matic and Ben Godfrey

Nemanja Matic and Bruno Fernandes Interest Ends

Tottenham have ended any interest in Nemanja Matic and also Bruno Fernandes. Samuel Luckhurst from the Manchester Evening News reports that despite the links with Matic and Spurs, Mourinho has no interest in signing the player.

Similarly, the club have ended this interest in Bruno Fernandes. Jack Bezants of the Mail Online quotes an interview from Sport TV. Mourinho says:

‘We are not a club that is going to make big transfers in the market, nor is it going towards players who are already developed or at a certain level of expectation, also economically.

‘I would definitely say no because Bruno (Fernandes) is a player of a level and value that is not for us.’

Thus, Mourinho highlights the continuity of transfer policy across successive manager’s under Daniel Levy’s tenure. Spurs are not a club that can afford the big names. Instead, they are a club that run a tight budget that ensures the sustainability of their future endeavours.

Christian Eriksen Price Tag

Spurs will be looking to sell Eriksen in the upcoming transfer window for a fee less than £40m. This is according to Dan Kilpatrick of The Evening Standard. After asking for a much higher fee, the club are now looking to make some return on the player before his contract ends in the summer.

The Dane has been a key player for the club over the years. However, his form has recently dropped. Indeed, this is probably due to his desire to play for perceivably bigger and better sides. And yet, Real Madrid have been sending mixed signals as to whether they wish to sign the player. The latest from J.L Calderon of Marca is that they are still interested in signing the player.

Ben Godfrey to Spurs?

The club reportedly have interest in Norwich City’s Ben Godfrey. The Football Insider (Pete O’Rourke) has revealed that Spurs will attempt to sign him in January. It would take some persuasion since the player only signed a new five-year contract in June.

Godfrey will turn 22 in January. He is capable of playing at both centre-back and defensive midfield. Thus, he would fit the right kind of profile for a Spurs transfer target. He is young, talented and able to cover multiple positions.
