REPORT: James Maddison Set to Sign New Contract at Leicester City Amid Interest From Manchester United

Keeping James Maddison is a Statement of Intent From Leicester City

James Maddison is regarded as one of the best young talents in Europe. He has proven to be an integral figure at Leicester City since joining the club in 2018.

Last season saw him register seven goals and seven assists across all competitions. However, he has kick-started into a new lease of life under Brendan Rodgers this season and already has four Premier League goals so far this season. As a result, his goal contributions have helped Leicester to second place in the Premier League.

Keeping Maddison at the King Power Stadium would signal a statement of intent by Leicester and Rodgers. The 22-year-old seems destined to reach the top and play regular Champions League football. However, he appears content with the Foxes, where he enjoys regular game time. Furthermore, Leicester look likely to break the top-four mould once again this season.

Perfect Signing for Manchester United?

Despite the likelihood of the midfielder signing a new contract with Leicester, Maddison would be the perfect signing for Manchester United.

Under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Manchester United have opted for a change in approach when it comes to transfers. They are now targeting young, British players, of which Maddison fits the mould.

Furthermore, the Red Devils are lacking a creative midfielder currently. Paul Pogba is still suffering with an injury and, as a result, it has seen both Fred and Andreas Pereira earn regular starts. If he were to move to Old Trafford, James Maddison would add quality to their attack.
