VfL Wolfsburg are now the only Bundesliga side to remain unbeaten after they edged past Union Berlin at the Volkswagen Arena.

Union had a disappointing afternoon, who despite the narrow defeat gave some promise in parts of the match. But, they have now lost four games in succession.

Wolfsburg Unbeaten but Union Looking for a win

Union Berlin have suffered four successive defeats now since their incredible win over Borussia Dortmund.

But, in each defeat, Die Eisernen have improved and will feel aggrieved not to have come away from the Volkswagen Arena with a point.

Dutch striker Wout Weghorst scored the games only goal midway through the second half, despite Union’s resilient defence.

Union tweaked their formation following last weeks defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt, and it proved successful in the overall performance. Urs Fischer’s men put in another promising performance, but once again, they weren’t clinical enough in front of goal.

Union also, conceded a second-half penalty, but the decision was overturned by VAR. Despite that, Weghorst found the opener soon after when the Dutchman struck from close range.

Union now drop to 16th in the Bundesliga with just four points from seven games. Meanwhile Wolfsburg are second with four wins and three draws from their opening seven matches.

International Break

The international break allows Union Berlin to regroup and push themselves again, including against Dynamo Dresden in a friendly at the Stadion An der Alten Försterei on Thursday.

The club had a mixed start to the season, with a heavy defeat before a draw and their only win, but this run of losses could damage morale, and they’ll need to bounce back.

The squad returns to Bundesliga action at home to SC Freiburg on October 19, while Wolfsburg travel to RB Leipzig, who themselves dropped points at Bayer Leverkusen last time out.
