Lincoln City Thriving With Yet Another Victory

Lincoln City thriving

Danny Cowley’s Lincoln City were predicted to being dark horses in League One this season. However, nobody expected them to start the 2019/20 campaign this well. Four games, four wins and, perhaps most impressively, four clean sheets. Lincoln City are thriving with yet another victory in League One.

Confidence Is Sky High

Following their title-winning campaign in League Two last season, the Imps would have been happy consolidating with a mid-table finish this season. Of course, they will take every game as it comes, and mid-table is still likely to be the aim, but confidence is sky high at Sincil Bank.

The Imps have been presented with a different challenge in each of their first four games in all competitions. Accrington Stanley greeted them with an underdog mentality on the first day of the season. However, Lincoln overcame and conquered 2-0. In their most recent game, they dominated and defeated accomplished League One side Southend United 4-0.

However, they are not the most impressive victories for Lincoln City. They defeated Rotherham United in their first away game of the season 2-0. The relegated Millers were stunned as they dominated large parts of the game, but Lincoln prevailed with three out of three shots on target. Three days later came their confidence-boosting win over Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup. They showed no fear against the Championship side and, despite having just 34% position, registered 20 shots on the Huddersfield goal.

New Players are Thriving the Most at Sincil Bank

It is the summer signings who are thriving the most so far at Lincoln City and none more so than Jorge Grant. The 24-year-old has three assists in four games so far this season and has proven a difficult winger to face so far this season.

Danny Cowley added to his squad with proven League One quality. All of the six new arrivals this summer have previously featured in the division; meanwhile, Jack Payne, Jorge Grant and Tyler Walker have previous experience in the Championship. It shows the attraction that the Imps now show, they are certainly a side on the up.

Biggest Challenge: Keeping Danny Cowley

Lincoln City are certainly thriving in League One so far this season. However, it could go pear-shaped should the highly-regarded Danny Cowley leave.

The 40-year-old manager is destined for the top, and has already been linked with a number of high profile roles, and will continue to be linked with them. If an opportunity arises that is too good to turn down, they may face a tough task keeping the man who has led them this far.
