Who Can Be Ole Gunnar Solskjaer And Manchester United’s Future Captain?

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may need to decide who his club captain will be. The interim manager has made quite an impact and many suggest he could be the first choice for the managerial role. So should Solskjaer stay at Old Trafford, who will be his number one in the dressing room? There are several candidates at Manchester United.

Who Can Step Up And Lead The Team?

Ander Herrera

Of course the Spaniard is a potential candidate. Someone whose passion and loyalty to the club has never been in doubt. The only real question would be can he be a leader? Although he has strong relations with his teammates, being a dominant character to them is different. If Solskjaer decides to rely on a fan favourite for captaincy, Herrera will need to adopt a more authoritative role on and off the pitch.

Paul Pogba

Another obvious candidate and quite the opposite of Herrera. Pogba has bolstered his big character and ego at United. His public falling out with Jose Mourinho is a prime example.

Even though he was stripped of his vice-captaincy under Mourinho, he showed everyone months before how he can spur a team. Being a vital cog in his country’s World Cup win shows why he can captain a club as big as United.

Victor Lindelof

Since the home defeat at Juventus, Lindelof’s defensive performances have improved vastly. Many have compared him to previous United captain and legend Nemanja Vidic.

Vidic himself struggled during his first six months at United but later went on to win many titles and establish himself as one of the best defenders in the world. Why can’t Lindelof go down the same path?

Nemanja Matic

At the age of 30, Matic has enough experience to captain United. He was rumoured to be Mourinho’s club captain but Antonio Valencia eventually took the position. It was too soon for Matic to captain the side having only been there a year. But with Valencia leaving and Matic completing his second season, now may be his chance.
