Ashley Young Extends His Contract At Manchester United

Ashley Young

England international Ashley Young has signed a one-year deal to stay with current club Manchester United. Sky Sports reporter Jim White reported that he has been rewarded for his good form at the club over a long period of time. The deal is reported to be worth £110,000 per week, a generous amount for a loyal member of their squad.

New Contract For Ashley Young at Manchester United

Invaluable Member

Ashley Young has taken the captaincy role from the injured Antonio Valencia; he is one of the longest-serving active members at the club. His transfer from Aston Villa back in 2011 cost £17 million and since then he has made 228 appearances for the Red Devils.

Young has shown his value with his versatility, switching from a winger to wing-back. His responsibility to the team is now to be a role-player and he has accepted the task. His experience is invaluable being one of the few in the squad to have won the league with the club.

Concerns only arise about his age, as this coming July he turns 34. Young is starting to age and fans will want to know when a true replacement will arrive. However, his performance on the field has still proven to be adequate. Also, having the interim captain return next season may not seem like a bad idea. Especially because Manchester United will need to appoint a permanent coach for next season.

Moving in a Positive Direction

Interim manager Ole Gunnar Solsjkær has done a fantastic job after replacing Jose Mourinho. The Special One was sacked mid-December as his club sat in sixth place, 19 points behind rivals Liverpool, who were leaders at the time.

Manchester United and Solskjaer seem keen on maintaining their quality players as they have already signed Anthony Martial to a long-term deal. The French youngster inked a contract extension worth £200,000 per week to keep him with United until 2024.

Not looking to stop there, Manchester United have their sights on signing starlet Marcus Rashford to a long-term deal. The young English striker’s signature is a priority. He has excelled under Solsjkær and has become a fan favourite. United are also hoping to sign other veteran members for at least another year. Players like Ander Herrera, Juan Mata, and Phil Jones are expected to receive offers to return to Old Trafford

Manchester United fans want to be excited for the next season, whether interim manager Ole Gunnar Solsjkær is there or not. With Solskjaer looking to lead the Red Devils to a top-four finish, the club administration is doing their bit by ensuring that the squad stays competitive.
