Thierry Henry has been fired by Ligue 1 club AS Monaco. The Frenchman was dismissed on Thursday, with the club currently 19th in the table. Sacked after just three months in charge, Henry leaves the club winning just four out of his 20 games in charge. Monaco are in talks with former manager Leonardo Jardim, according to reports.

Thierry Henry Fired By AS Monaco

On Thursday, the club announced that Henry had been suspended while the club made a decision on his future. However, Henry’s suspension is understood to merely be procedural, and Monaco have already parted ways with the Frenchman. Sitting 19th in Ligue 1, Monaco are on the verge of relegation. Winning just three league games this season, they are a club in turmoil. Ligue 1 champions and Champions League semi-finalists in 2017, Monaco’s downfall is a surprising one.

As a club, Monaco’s structure heaps pressure on the manager. This was Henry’s first job in management. Managing Monaco is a tough task for any boss, just ask Jardim. Henry was asked from the start to carry an injury-plagued, inexperienced squad out of the relegation zone. He wasn’t ready for such a task, leaving Monaco in a bad position. Eager to get into management, Henry took the wrong job at the wrong time.

During his time in charge, Henry was let down by his players. Struggling on a weekly basis, Monaco have far too much talent to be in the relegation zone. Relying heavily on the club’s youth, Henry was always fighting a losing battle. The club’s experienced players, the leaders, looked lacklustre on the pitch. One thing Henry did was care. Battling many obstacles, he did his best in a bad environment. His players failed to follow his example. Monaco are in big trouble as one of the league’s biggest clubs are on the verge of being relegated from Ligue 1.
