N’Golo Kante Signs New Deal Worth £290,000-a-week

N'Golo Kante

N’Golo Kante has committed his long-term future to Chelsea. He has put pen to paper on a new deal, with talks ongoing since the summer. Kante, before the contract was signed, had been earning £150,000-a-week since his £30 million move from Leicester in July 2016, which would’ve expired in 2021. Kante reportedly turned down two offers from French giants Paris Saint-Germain not so long ago, saying “I love playing for Chelsea”.

N’Golo Kante Signs New Deal Worth £290,000-a-Week

This deal comes as no surprise seeing as Kante has been one of the top Premier League players in recent years. He was vital in both the Leicester and Chelsea title-winning seasons with his excellence in ball recovery, not to mention his top performances in France’s journey to becoming World Cup winners.

What Does This Mean For Kante?

Many fans have been left with questions as to how he will benefit from Sarri’s philosophy. He specialises in the defensive midfield role but has recently undergone a transformation into more of an attacking midfielder. This deal proves that Sarri is willing to continue to adapt Kante into his new role. In this new role, it is clear that he is not as effective as he was in previously. This is a role that is almost alien to the Frenchman. From what we have seen so far of Kante this season, though, he is good enough to perform it. He has established a nice link-up partnership with Cesar Azpilicueta and is always there to cover when the Spaniard goes forward.

This deal represents a big step up in the 27-year-old’s wages, but it could be his last contract for Chelsea, as the new deal will take him into his early thirties. For the foreseeable future, however, Kante will remain a Chelsea player.
