Nottingham Forest have sacked manager Mark Warburton after just nine months at the club. Warburton’s sacking comes following their 14th league defeat of the season, as they lost 1-0 at home to Sunderland.

Following a run of one win in seven matches, the board informed Warburton that they were seeking change. Only bottom side Birmingham City have more defeats than Forest in the EFL Championship this season.
Poor Run of Form Spells the End
Two consecutive defeats against Sheffield Wednesday and Sunderland spelled the end for the former Brentford and Rangers boss.
Currently sitting 14th in the Championship, it has been reported that the board lost confidence in the 55-year-old. Despite steering the club clear of relegation last season, Warburton’s luck ran out after Aiden McGeady’s header gave Sunderland the win at the City Groud.
Following his side’s defeat, Warburton described their performance as “unacceptable”, a notion the Forest board seemingly more than agreed with.
Loss of Confidence From Board
As previously noted, a loss of confidence from the board has all but cost Warburton his job.
According to the Guardian Online, the club’s owners believe that Warburton’s policy and philosophies with younger players have ultimately affected the club’s current position. Furthermore they also believe it has made them too “vulnerable” for the Championship.
With the transfer window opening within 24 hours, perhaps this is where the club look to add some depth to their side. On the other hand, one could argue that this sacking could not have come at a less convenient time, as the transfer window opens.
What Next for Forest?
As Warburton departs the club, the club’s academy manager Gary Brazil will be assume the role of caretaker manager.
At this point, it would only be logical for the club to seek an immediate replacement for Warburton. However, Brazil shall need a few games to settle things into place, as Forest want to avoid another potential relegation battle.
