Barnsley FC have, this afternoon, announced the completion of a takeover by a consortium group. The group is reportedly led by Chinese businessman Chien Lee, alongside American investors Paul Conway and Grace Hung.

Barnsley FC have officially announced the takeover of the club, by a consortium group. It has been reported that Chien Lee of NewCity capital and Pacific Media Group has led the takeover.

Speaking on the club’s official website, Chief Executive Gauthier Ganaye said: “We would like to thank every member of our loyal fan base for their patience and continued support over recent months. An exciting chapter is opening for Barnsley Football Club and we are looking forward to the future together.”

A press conference will be held tomorrow (20th December) at 14:00. The acquisition of the club shall be addressed. As well, the club’s new ownership shall be presented to the media.

Chien Lee & Pacific Media Group History

Chien Lee and the Pacific Media group are no strangers to football. In June 2016, Lee purchased 80% of French Ligue 1 side OGC Nice. In his first year at the club, they qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.

Also speaking to the club’s official website, Mr Conway said: “Similar to our investment in OGC Nice, we expect to further enhance the academy, playing squad, commercial operations and fan experience of Barnsley Football Club.”

A New Era At Oakwell

This Saturday, as Barnsley travel to Brentford, Mr Lee, Mr Conway and Ms Hung shall be in attendance at Griffin Park.

It has been a successful spell for the club, following promotion to the Championship two years ago. Now the Yorkshire club can look to further their prospects, on and off the pitch, in the hope for more success.
