Injured Tottenham Players Return To Boost Squad

The injured Tottenham players, such as Lamela and Rose, will be like new signings, and will bolster the squad on their return.

Injured Tottenham Players Return To Boost Squad

Spurs suffered many injuries to key squad players last season. Some were long term, which sidelined the likes of Danny Rose and Erik Lamela—two instrumental players for the first team. Whilst the club have failed to make any incomings in the transfer market, the return of these injured Tottenham players could boost the squad as much as a new signing would.

Danny Rose

Establishing himself as one of the best fullbacks in the Premier League, Rose has been struggling with a knee injury that has required surgery. He should be back in training by the end of August.

Rose is vital to Tottenham’s new campaign for many reasons. He offers both attacking and defensive capabilities—a true wingback. It is his pace and intensity that really marks him out as a quality player, able to get past any defender, whilst marking some of the fastest players in the game himself. This is something that was really missed last season whilst Rose was injured. Ben Davies is a quality defender who can press forward when required. However, he does not have the same attacking intent. Rose is much more comfortable when attacking and is thus more productive, consistently able to reach the byline to swing a cross in.

There is going to be an interesting match-up in the Premier League when Rose does return from injury. His ex-teammate Kyle Walker will be battling against him, left-back versus right-back. Whilst the lads will be keen to stress their friendly rivalry and professional relationship together, they will undoubtedly want to fight to prove who made the right move.

Erik Lamela

Meanwhile, Lamela has undergone surgery for his hip injury. Unfortunately, the Argentinian will be out of action until around October.

As a result of his injury, Lamela is missing a whole year out from the game. This poses a great worry as to his match fitness on his return. The longer the player’s injury, the more he is suffering both mentally and physically. Long-term injuries can affect the confidence of a player. Considering Lamela was initially struggling to begin with at Spurs, his current injury could cause those confidence issues to resurface. Fortunately for Lamela, at the club there is a positive attitude that Pochettino has imbued into his squad, and this environment could help to accelerate the return from injury.

He often divides opinions amongst Tottenham fans. Many are keen to have in back in the starting lineup, due to his tenacity and dogged play. Indeed, his tackling and intensity cannot be faulted, although it occasionally verges over the laws of the game. But, it is this preparedness to be uncompromising that puts key threats under immense pressure. Arguably, his best position is the inside forward role, where he is able to run at defenders with his incredible dribbling ability. In comparison to Heung-Min Son, Lamela is less pacey but offers a strong left foot. Pochettino will have a selection headache with Lamela’s return, who will be yet another player capable of contributing goals.
