Bundesliga Week Three Preview

The third week of the Bundesliga season promises to be just as exciting as the two opening weeks. There are a couple of match ups to keep an eye on, including Borussia Monchengladbach against Werder Bremen. Lets take a closer look at what this week has to offer.

Bundesliga Week Three Preview

F.C. Koln vs. SC Freiburg

Koln will look to keep their unbeaten record alive and well on Friday night as they host Freiburg. The home side is yet to lose a match this season and could go top of the table for at least the night if they come away with three points.

Freiburg are coming off of a huge win last weekend against Borussia Monchengladbach. Maximilian Philipp scored a brace in the victory and could have a similar impact in this match.

Hoffenheim vs. Wolfsburg

Both of these clubs have yet to lose a match in the opening weeks. Hoffenheim have drawn their opening two matches and will be in search of their first win. They were involved in a high scoring thriller last weekend and have already tallied six goals this seasons. Striker Mark Uth has scored three goals in two appearances and should be a player to watch for in this contest.

Wolfsburg have yet to allow a goal this season and have looked solid defensively. Last weekend they looked flat offensively as they failed to create quality chances. If they can play to their potential on the attack, then this match has a chance to be a high scoring one.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs. Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund will be looking to rebound after a tough loss to Red Bull Lepzig last Saturday. The club suffered from a lack of concentration at the end and it cost them. However, a blowout win midweek in the Champions League should give them plenty of confidence coming into this match.

Frankfurt is not a club that Borussia Dortmund can overlook this weekend as they have already knocked off F.C. Schalke in the opening week. Defensively, they have looked strong, as their only goal conceded this season came off of a turnover in the midfield.

Bayern Munich vs. FC Ingolstadt

It’s been a relative easy start for Bayern Munich as they have already outscored their opponents 8-0 in the opening two weeks. Ingolstadt will have an uphill battle when they travel to the Allianz Arena on Saturday. They have yet to win a match and will be heavy underdogs coming into this match. Bayern Munich won both meetings between the two clubs last season.

Hamburg SV vs. RB Lepzig

A surprising start for RB Lepzig has their fans excited as the newly promoted side have gone undefeated in their first two matches. Unfortunately, they received bad news this week as they will lose right-back Lukas Klostermann for two months.

American striker Bobby Wood has had a terrific start for Hamburg. He has netted two goals in his first two appearances and should be a key player for the home side on Saturday.

Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen have had a terrible start to the season. This is a key match for them as they are in danger of failing off the pace even more with a loss. New arrival Serge Gnabry did have a good debut and will be called upon once again to produce. This club is under performing at the moment and a win here could get them back on the right path.

Monchengladbach played a horrendous second half last Saturday when they allowed three goals in the second half. This week they were already dismantled 4-0 by Manchester City in the Champions League. Thorgan Hazard has been a bright spot in the early part of the season and could have an impact on this match.

FC Augsburg vs. FC Mainz

A blown lead last week was the story for Mainz as the club let a golden opportunity to claim three points slip away. On the bright side, midfielder Pablo de Blasis and forward Yoshinori Muto are in fine form and have the potential to produce goals this weekend. Defensively, they will need to tidy up. They looked vulnerable many times last weekend and will be without Gaetan Bussmann, who was sent off in the last match.

Augsburg will be looking for their second straight win. They defeated Werder Bremen last week and have a chance to move back up the table with a win on Sunday. Last seasons meetings between the two sides ended in a draw and loss for Augsburg.

Hertha Berlin vs. Schalke 04

Both of these sides are headed in opposite directions at the moment. Hertha Berlin have been fantastic in their opening two matches and sit in second place in the table. Schalke have dropped their opening two matches and will be coming off of a Europa League appearance on Thursday. This could be a long season for Schalke fans.
