Sweet FA 2016-17 Podcast Three: Be Careful What you Wish for, Arsenal Fans

Welcome to the third Sweet FA podcast of the 2016-17 season. Regular panellists, Rob Mitchell and Hugo Jennings, discuss the Arsène Wenger question. For how much longer will the 66-year-old be at Arsenal, and should those who want him sacked immediately be careful what they wish for?

Hugo, an Arsenal fan, talks about the history of the anti-Wenger movement, as well as analysing the Frenchman’s strengths and weaknesses over the years. Rob, a Manchester United fan, looks at Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign in comparison, as well as giving an outside look at the current situation in North London.

Could Wenger have done more to improve his players’ mental strength in recent years? Should he have invested in some more physical players to balance his squad? Who would be the ideal replacement for the man who has built the club in his image?

Towards the end of the podcast, Hugo and Rob discuss the “Wenger Out Brigade” and how their protests and general negativity cannot be helping the team, regardless of whether or not their anger is justified. They talk about the toxic atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium and how the home support could well have cost Arsenal points over the years.

Robert Mitchell covers a range of sports for Lastwordonsports.com, including the NFL, Rugby, Formula 1 and the Premier League. Author of the Co$t of Winning column focused on the business of sport, he is also the host of Last Word Radio’s Rugby show Absolute Flanker and an analyst on Sweet FA.

Hugo is the Editor-in-Chief of LWOS World, a regular on Sweet FA and occasional panellist on Treble Radio. He mostly writes about Arsenal, Spanish football and cricket. He is a season-ticket holder at Arsenal.
