Andrew Wiggins’ Decision to Remain with the Golden State Warriors

Andrew Wiggins‘ decision to stay with the Golden State Warriors is the best option he had for his career. A championship-caliber team is what he needed. This is to say, he sees the bigger picture at the end of the tunnel.

Andrew Wiggins’ Decision to Remain with the Golden State Warriors

Wiggins just signed a deal that is a win-win for him and the team he is presently playing with. His paycheck for the 2022-2023 season will be $33 million for the final year of his current contract. As a compromise to stay with the Dubs, Wiggins was amenable to taking a cut off his present salary to the tune of about $10 million a year. Meaning, his salary for 2023-2024 will be $24.3 million and will increase to $26.3 million in the second year. Including incentives, Wiggins will receive a total maximum salary of $143 million in the next 5 years.

A Simple Reason to Remain with the Dubs

The former University of Kansas Jayhawks would have earned the maximum compensation if he opted to wade it out after his existing contract. It was a baffling move for experts and fans. The reason was pure and simple: Wiggins loves the team, his teammates, and the stability the GSW organization provides. Evidently, the gesture was more than welcome to the Warriors franchise; they need every cent to work out with other players’ extension contracts on the pool.

For the Love of the Game

When Wiggins was with the Minnesota Timberwolves, critics considered his career at the end of the line. On the other hand, his transfer to the Warriors franchise paved his resurgence by playing alongside Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson, and Jordan Poole.

The Canadian “ Michael Jordan “ was once a top overall pick in the NBA drafts. His stint with the Timberwolves never landed him the maximum contract he yearned for. He had the opportunity to rise with his added value to the Warriors. In fact, Wiggins showed that he was a valuable piece in the Golden State’s style of play. The Finals brought out the best in him.

In the same vein, Wiggins might not be able to find a team that is right for him. He has a ball club that he is happy with where they can do something extraordinary playing with teammates he believes in. In Addition, the organization is fully supportive, hence, both parties inked a done deal. Most of all, the small forward is happy with the contract he has.

Wiggins compromised to be with the Dubs for his love of the game and the team he wants to play with. Probably, until the end of his career.  Other players demand something they are not worthy of; as a result, end up throwing away whatever precious opportunities they had.

There will never be another Andrew Wiggins nor will he find a team that will satisfy him in all aspects as a player than the Golden State. After all, Andre Wiggins’ decision to remain with the Golden State Warriors may be the best until his playing days are over.

So, play on Andrew. The Dub nation’s behind you.
