Hunter Pence’s Hamstring lands him on the 10-day DL
Death, taxes, and Hunter Pence getting injured. Pence found himself on the 10-day DL for a strained left hamstring on May 15, 2017. The San Francisco Giants kept him out of the lineup over the weekend. But his leg injury has not improved with three days off. As such, the Giants needed to open roster space to bring in someone who can take the field. The Giants did not retroactive the assignment to the DL. They opted to give their rightfielder a full 10-days rest to heal the niggling hamstring.
Pence has slashed .243/.289/.338/.627 through 37 games. These numbers are down across the board from last season. In fact, they are the lowest of his 11 years of playing in the major leagues. Playing in right, he incurred a fielding percentage of 1.000, accounting for 74 putouts and two outfield assists. He has not committed an error this season. As tweeted by Chris Haft, Pence thinks 10-days will be enough.

Pence’s durability has waned since he played 162 game in 2013 and 2014. He appeared in a mere 52 games in 2015 and 106 games in 2016.
Roster Move
To take Pence’s place on the roster, the Giants recall Mac Williamson from the Triple-A Sacramento River Cats. Through 18 games this year, the veteran farmhand has posted a slash line of .274/.338/.452/.790 in 80 plate appearances. He did see limited action with the big league club in 2016. In 54 games with the Giants, he had 127 plate appearances, and slashed .223/.314/.495/.809. He had 25 hits against major league pitching last year, of which nine were for extra-bases. He drove in 15 RBI with six home runs. In limited action in rightfield, he secured 40 of 41 put out opportunities, and committed one error.
