The Toronto Blue Jays have called up right-handed pitcher Nate Pearson from Triple-A Buffalo. The news came after they placed relief pitcher Adam Cimber on the 15-day IL with a rhomboid (upper back) strain. The announcement came earlier this afternoon before the Blue Jays’ homestand. The right-hander will be active as of Monday night at home against the Chicago White Sox.

Nate Pearson in 2023
Nate Pearson has spent the 2023 season with the Buffalo Bisons. So far, he has been solid in Buffalo with an ERA of 2.16 in 8 and 1/3 innings pitched. Pearson has been a bullpen arm, where he has struck out 16 of the 35 batters he has faced this season. The power pitcher was a 2017 first-round draft pick of the Blue Jays and is now given another opportunity to play in Toronto. Pearson played with the Blue Jays in 2020 and 2021 with an ERA of 5.18 in 33 innings pitched. Pearson missed much of the 2022 season due to a lat strain.
Expectations from Pearson
Unlike previous stints with the Blue Jays, Pearson will pitch in a relief role ahead of closer Jordan Romano. Pearson is a power pitcher who is looking to strike batters out. He has three pitches in his repertoire: fastball, slider, and change-up. His fastball this season has reached over 100 mph while with the Bisons. As someone who has dominated this season in Triple-A Buffalo, Pearson has fought his way back with the Blue Jays. As the Blue Jays bullpen has been off to a strong start, Nate Pearson must prove he can be effective beyond this 15-day stint. The Toronto Blue Jays start a six-game homestand Monday, welcoming in the White Sox and Mariners. Hopefully, Pearson will shine during his time in the spotlight.
