Sports. Honestly. Since 2011

Dodgers left-hander Blake Snell (7) throws a pitch at Dodger Stadium in June 2025.

Another Ace on the Comeback Trail for Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers could use some good news right now, and it looks like they got it. Left-hander Blake Snell will make his first rehab start tomorrow with Single-A Ontario after being sidelined since spring training with shoulder inflammation, according to Katie Woo of The Athletic. Snell had a bullpen session last week and checked all the necessary boxes. This next appearance is another step in the process of his recovery. If all goes well, Snell will return to the starting rotation in late May or early June.

Blake Snell Scheduled for Rehab Start on Wednesday

Manning the Gap

In 2025, the Dodgers’ bullpen was not as solid as it had been in the recent past. As a result, they had to rely on their starters to fill the void. The left-hander had a nearly impeccable start in the National League Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. To follow up, Snell made three appearances in the Fall Classic, the last being in consequential relief in Game Seven. The workload took its toll on the two-time Cy Young Award winner, and the Dodgers are being careful not to rush his return.

Strong Getting Stronger

Snell is returning to a rotation that has propelled them to the best record in baseball. (tied with the Atlanta Braves). They rank near the top of the league in ERA and WHIP. They have also averaged more than five innings per start, even with Roki Sasaki being a work in progress after his slightly worrisome start to the season. Barring injury, it looks like the rotation will only improve. In 2025, Snell had a sparkling 2.35 ERA to go with a WHIP of 1.255.

Glass Half Full?

The news of Snell’s return softens the blow of Edwin Díaz‘s ailing elbow, which will sideline the closer for three months. Los Angeles is going to have to test their depth and bide their time until he returns. The Dodgers may be on the road to a wonderful season, but it has not been a smooth ride.
