The Los Angeles Dodgers got some good news on the injury front today. Manager Dave Roberts announced that Tommy Edman and Blake Snell are “targeted to return…around the end of May,” according to Jack Harris of The California Post. There is obviously more time to wait. However, this is the first time the Dodgers have voiced anything definite regarding the two players’ return.
Tommy Edman, Blake Snell Expected to Return for Dodgers in Late May
The Making of an Ace
Snell has not recovered from the workload that he undertook last season. The two-time Cy Young Award winner was eager to start for his new team last season, only to be sidelined for a significant time. However, he came back in time to carry the Dodgers through some crucial games down the stretch. His 2.35 Earned Run Average anchored a starting staff that had to pull extra weight thanks to a bullpen that struggled to be consistent or effective in 2025. Of particular note is his six shutdown innings against the Philadelphia Phillies in the City of Brotherly Love in the National League Division Series.

Tommy Tanks
Edman had extensive surgery to repair his injured ankle this offseason. It was the same ankle that had been a problem before he donned a Dodgers uniform in 2024. He managed to play with the injury through 2024. However, in 2025, he re-injured the ankle early in the season, and it seemed to hamper him most of the year. He hit for a .225 batting average with 13 home runs last season. The batting average took a hit because it is 30 points lower than his career norm. Edman’s ankle also affected his range in center field. Roberts was forced to make late-inning defensive changes in favor of someone who was fleet of foot.
With Opening Day less than a week away, the faster the Dodgers get healthy, the better. After all, they are pursuing history.
