Dodgers option Sheehan on Thursday

Dodgers Call Up Jack Little; Option Emmet Sheehan

Well… that was quick. The pitching carousel continues for the Los Angeles Dodgers. They have called up right-hander Jack Little and they have optioned Emmet Sheehan. To make room on the 40-man roster, they have placed starter Tony Gonsolin on the 60-day Injured List. Sheehan was activated from the I.L. last night after a 13-month absence due to Tommy  John surgery. And Los Angeles couldn’t have asked for more. The right-hander went four innings against the division rival San Diego Padres. He allowed one earned run while striking out six and walking none.

No doubt, Sheehan will make another Major League appearance soon. However, it will be at least two weeks unless there is an injury.

Little Making a Big Impression?

Jack Little was on the taxi squad last week, but now he gets his chance. At Triple-A Oklahoma City, the right-hander was 3-2 and had a 2.20 Earned Run Average. He also has 33 strikeouts in 26 games thus far this season, walking 11.  In addition, Little has converted 10 saves in 11 opportunities. The 27-year-old was a fifth-round pick out of Stanford in 2019. He doesn’t rely on velocity as most relievers do. Instead, he uses the movement of his pitches to get hitters out. He recently added a splitter to his repertoire.

Things to Keep An Eye on After Dodgers Option Sheehan

Hyeseong Kim will get a second straight start in centerfield tonight Tommy Edman will man second base. Does this mean that Michael Conforto‘s leash is getting shorter? Perhaps. Manager Dave Roberts has said that Kim has “…earned an opportunity for a consistent look.” The at-bats may be spread more equally going forward. He said that Conforto is “…working through some things.” For what it’s worth Conforto’s batting average has been below .200 for several months, while Kim has hit above .35o in limited playing time.

Whatever happens, the Dodgers continue to shuffle players in hopes of finding a winning combination.
